3 | Updating User Settings
3.1 Changing User Settings
In Global Navigation, click the Account link, then click the Settings link. Then click the Edit Settings button and change the options as shown below:
The user settings are described below:
- Full Name [1]: This is your name as registered in your student account/portal. It is used for the Gradebook and Grades pages, Chat, People, and SIS imports. This setting cannot be changed.
- Display Name [2]: This is how other users will see your name in Announcements, Conferences, Conversations, and Discussions. This setting cannot be changed.
- Sortable Name [3]: This defaults to your "Last name, First name" and appears in sorted lists so admins can search for it. This setting cannot be changed.
- Pronouns [4]: This displays after your name in various areas throughout Canvas. You may change this setting.
- Default Email [5]: This is picked from the official email address registered in your student account/portal. You can add your personal/alternative email if you wish.
- Language [6]: This is the language you want to use in Canvas. This setting cannot be changed.
- Time Zone [7]: This can be set to where you are located and displays assignments in your local time. You may change this setting.
- Password [8] is the combination of characters you choose to use to log in to your Canvas account. YOU SHOULD CHANGE THIS SETTING IMMEDIATELY.
After you finish, click the Update Settings button.
